Only one more sleep until the Valentine’s Day knickers come out of the darkest corners of your closet and men the world over embark on the impossible task of planning the perfect V day date!
Let’s face it – Valentine’s Day is just an excuse to make an effort to actually date the person you have been seeing/married to/engaged to for a while! Why not use it as an excuse to make a little extra effort with the primping and polishing? Here, ladies, I share with you my Valentine’s date makeup tips!
This is one of the easiest yet most overlooked ways to add some sparkle to your skin. Great skin is so important to a great makeup look and skin finish. No matter how great your foundation is, if you skin is in bad condition, you won’t shine.
Take the time tonight to really make some effort with your skincare regime.
1. Once you have cleansed your face, steam it and towel pat it dry.
2. Once you have done that pop on a mask for about 15 minutes.
3. Once again cleanse and pay dry, then add your serum, eye cream and moisturiser.
I know I say it all the time but winter can be very harsh to your skin so make sure you are drinking enough water and moisturising it enough.
Primer does wonders for your overall makeup look because it helps to keep your foundation in place. Foundation is key to giving you a gorgeous complexion. This doesn’t mean that you need tonnes of it, especially if you have lovely clear skin, but an even skin tone is the basis of a great makeup look. I simply love Laura Mercier’s foundation primer and use it in many of my video tutorials.
Dimly lit rooms and candlelight throws the most beautiful glow on your face if you have the right highlighter on.
I always recommend a creamy highlighter rather than a powder if you don’t really know what you’re doing as it’s more forgiving!
Keep it on the high points of your face (cheek bones, bridge of your nose, cupids bow).
As it’s Valentine’s day, I assume you will be puckering up for a good night kiss so make sure you keep your lip colour natural and the texture non-sticky! The last thing your date will want is to be sporting bright red lips after dropping you off at your front door, post-date! I quizzed the ladies from Love Honour and Be True about their range of hippies just this week!
There will be lots of staring into each other’s eyes so why not make yours stare worthy! Add a few individual lashes to the corners of your eyes. These will make your eyes look bigger and give you a natural doe eyed look. Make sure you watch our tutorial here to help you with application.
Happy Valentine’s Day girls. I hope you enjoyed my top Valentine’s Date makeup tips!
